# MBBS Abroad for Indian Students in 2026–27: Top Countries, Fees & Everything You Need to Know

By Adina Global Education | Study Abroad Consultants in Noida, Aligarh & Amroha

Every year, over 20,000 Indian students leave the country to pursue MBBS abroad, and that number is growing fast. With NEET seats in India limited and private medical college fees touching ₹80–100 lakhs, studying medicine abroad has become the smarter, more affordable path for thousands of aspiring doctors.

But with so many countries, universities, and consultants out there, where do you even start?

This guide breaks it all down, clearly, honestly, without the usual sales pitch.

## Why Are Indian Students Choosing MBBS Abroad?

The math is simple. In India, a private MBBS can cost anywhere from ₹60 lakhs to over ₹1 crore. Government seats are competitive beyond belief. Meanwhile, internationally recognised medical universities in Russia, Germany, the Philippines, and Eastern Europe offer the same 5–6 year MBBS programme for ₹20–50 lakhs total, with no donation, no capitation fee, and no compromise on quality.

Beyond cost, Indian students choosing MBBS abroad get:

- Global exposure and clinical training in international hospitals

- NMC-approved universities (National Medical Commission), so the degree is valid in India

- English-medium programmes in most popular destinations

- Faster admission timelines (no entrance test beyond NEET in most countries)

## Top Countries for MBBS Abroad in 2025–26

Here's an honest breakdown of the most popular destinations for Indian students:

### 🇷🇺 Russia

Total cost: ₹25–50 lakhs (all-inclusive)

Russia has been a top choice for Indian medical students for decades. Universities like Kazan Federal University, Sechenov University, and RUDN are NMC-approved and well-established. The medium of instruction is English. Climate can be a challenge for students from North India, but the quality-to-cost ratio is hard to beat.

Best for: Students who want a budget-friendly, proven destination with strong Indian student communities.

### 🇩🇪 Germany

Total cost: ₹10–15 lakhs (public universities have near-zero tuition)

Germany is the hidden gem of MBBS abroad. Public universities charge little to no tuition, you only pay a semester fee of €150–350. However, the admission process is competitive, and you'll need to learn German (at least B2 level) as most programmes are taught in German.

Best for: Students willing to invest time in language learning for a near-free, world-class medical education.

### 🇵🇭 Philippines

Total cost: ₹35–55 lakhs

The Philippines follows the US-based medical education model, 4 years of BS Biology + 4 years of MD. Universities like the University of Santo Tomas and AMA School of Medicine are globally recognised. English is the medium of instruction. The USMLE pathway is popular here.

Best for: Students aiming for a US medical career or who prefer an English-speaking, Western-style curriculum.

### 🇰🇿 Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan

Total cost: ₹20–35 lakhs

Central Asian countries have emerged as affordable, NMC-approved destinations. Lower cost of living, Indian-friendly food, and a large Indian student community make the transition easier. Universities like Kazakh National Medical University are well-regarded.

Best for: Students on a tighter budget who want a smooth cultural transition.

### 🇷🇴 Romania, Bulgaria & Eastern Europe

Total cost: ₹35–55 lakhs

EU-based medical degrees come with the advantage of being recognised across Europe. Romania and Bulgaria have NMC-approved universities offering English-medium programmes. A Romanian or Bulgarian MBBS opens doors to practising across the EU, a significant long-term advantage.

Best for: Students with a long-term goal of settling and practising in Europe.

## Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Abroad (Indian Students)

Regardless of country, here's what you generally need:

Requirement | Details |

Age | Minimum 17 years at the time of admission |

Education | 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) |

Minimum marks | 50% in PCB (45% for SC/ST/OBC) |

NEET | Mandatory, you must qualify NEET to be eligible for MBBS abroad |

IELTS/TOEFL | Required for some countries (Germany, Philippines); not for Russia/Central Asia |

Passport | Valid passport required |

> Important: From 2024 onwards, the NMC (National Medical Commission) has made NEET compulsory for Indian students seeking admission to foreign medical universities. No NEET score = no valid medical degree recognition in India.

## The FMGE / NExT Exam, What You Need to Know

Getting your MBBS abroad is step one. To practise medicine in India, you'll need to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), being replaced by NExT (National Exit Test) from 2025 onwards.

The pass rate for FMGE has historically been around 15–20%, which is why choosing the right university, one with strong academic standards and good clinical training, matters enormously.

At Adina Global, we only recommend NMC-approved universities with strong FMGE track records. This isn't optional. It's the difference between a usable degree and a wasted investment.

## How to Choose the Right Country (And Avoid the Wrong Consultant)

Here's the truth most consultants won't tell you: the "best" country is the one that fits YOUR profile, budget, and career goals, not the one that earns the consultant the highest commission.

Ask any consultant you speak to:

1. Is this university NMC-approved? (Verify at nmc.org.in)

2. What is the university's FMGE pass rate?

3. What are ALL the costs, tuition, hostel, food, travel, visa?

4. Do you have a formal agreement with this university?

5. Can I speak to a current student from this university?

If they can't answer all five clearly and confidently, walk away.
